MFL Careers Talk - Tues 14 Oct 2025
Some Yr11 & Yr12 students were extremely fortunate to listen to a wonderful guest speaker, a former Loreto student, Rebecca Anderson, on Tuesday 14 October.
Rebecca spoke about her language experience and her studies BSc Medical Sciences & Global Health Imperial College London (2022) and MSc Epidemiology LSHTM (2024) and the link between the two. She has been a Research Assistant at Imperial College since 2021.
She explained how she had used her GCSE French when she was working in Africa with colleagues, especially as she was the only one who could speak French. She was able to lead and participate in Francophone workshops, do data reviews and analysis.
Furthermore, she made the case for how knowing a language can make you more employable, help you in tricky situations, allows you to see the world, to build bridges and to be fun!
Yr12 students said: ‘We found the presentation very informative and insightful. We discovered the knowledge of a language can hugely broaden the career possibilities and highlight the various paths that you can take in the future’. (Kayla Grzegorczyk, Heloise Beddoes, Georgia Maddock & Nancy Baxter Hurt.
Yr11 students said: ‘Overall, we really enjoyed our talk with Rebecca. She was really informative and we found her talk enlightening and inspiring. She is ambitious and dedicated to languages and her work. She proved that how even a GCSE in French can benefit your skill-set and prove to be extremely useful’ (Fiona Joyce & Mila Karacayli).
