Children's Book Award Discussion Day

Here's Adelain's brilliant write-up of the Children's Book Award Discussion Day at Beaumont School in St Albans.

On Thursday the 8th of May, I attended the Children’s Book Awards at Beaumont, and it was a fantastic experience. One of the highlights of the day was an inspiring talk by Chris Vick, who shared fascinating insights into his writing journey and what it’s like to be an author.

During the event, we also took part in portfolio work, where we created artwork, including designing bookmarks. It was a fun and creative activity that helped us connect more personally with the stories we were celebrating.

We discussed the three exciting, shortlisted books, including Issac Investigates: Clockwork Conspiracy by Sam Sedgeman, Seven Million Sunflowers by Malcom Duffy and Ditching Saskia by John Moore. Talking about these stories helped bring them to life and gave us the chance to share our opinions and ideas with others.

There were also refreshments available, and the overall atmosphere was friendly, welcoming, and full of enthusiasm for books. I would definitely recommend this event to anyone who enjoys reading, meeting authors, and getting creative with stories. It was a memorable day that really celebrated the power of books.
