Nov 13th / On Tuesday evening we were delighted to welcome into school the families and friends of our Y12 students.  They had all come to celebrate the achievements of these students over the last year.

All of our guests were introduced to Zoe Jackson MBE, who is a winner of the Queen’s Young Leaders Award, and was recently recognised as one of the UK’s “Top 100 Inspiring Women”.  Zoe talked about how she had set up and developed “Living The Dream” (more details here), and she encouraged our Y12 students to recognise that they all have in them the ability to make a difference.

After this, GCSE certificates for summer 2015 were presented by Zoe, and prizes were given for various academic and extracurricular achievements.

This event gave us a lovely opportunity to congratulate our Y12 students on what they have already achieved, and to encourage them to set their sights as high as possible.

We very grateful not only to Zoe, but also to everyone who helped to make this evening a very enjoyable and uplifting experience for all.  Below these photos, Mrs Lloyd gives us an insight into some of the preparations that went into this event.

As a part of our Hospitality GCSE Course, students are expected to contribute to real life catering events.   This evening provided just such an opportunity.  Our Year 10 girls worked together with Mrs Hogan to create Vegetable Spring Rolls served with a Sweet Chilli Dip and Mini Sausage Croissants. The girls produced food of an excellent quality and many of the guests commented that it was difficult to believe that they had actually made it themselves!  The girls had even made flaky pastry from scratch for the sausage croissants.

The girls also acted as waitresses serving the food and did all they could to help guests feel as welcome as possible at the Celebration Evening.  They conducted themselves faultlessly and should be very proud of their achievement.

I would like to thank the girls for their willingness to help with a few extra jobs – and for leaving the Food Room so neat and tidy at the end of a very long day!
