July 1st / One of the most exciting productions of the year at the National Theatre has been ‘King Lear’, starring Simon Russell-Beale as the king. The Year 13 English group can testify to the value of seeing this set text on stage soon after its opening. To gain another chance to obtain tickets, this time for the Year 12 classes, was a piece of luck. As a result, a group visited the National Theatre today to marvel at the portrayal of the king and how well the evil of Goneril and Edmund, in particular, is captured. It is a modern-dress production which works well and really brings alive the language and themes of the play.
