May 8th / Our Young Enterprise team Vintage Heroes were delighted to win the local area board competition last night. This means they were chosen as the best team from the Harpenden and St Albans area, beating some prestigous opposition in the process. The team members are Angela Olsen, Amy Walczac-Hobbs,Chioma Peters, Charlotte Woolnough, Sophie O’Leary and Jemaima Mendoza from Year 12. Together they make and sell upcycled household items. They are helped by their business adviser Victoria Mellon, a Loreto parent, from Luxottica in St Albans.
Vintage Heroes’ latest success is the Loreto Bow, which earned them the “Best Product” award at the competition last night. They have previously scooped the “Eco-Friendly” award at a trade fair held at the Harlequin Centre in Watford. The Loreto Bow will be on sale in school when the girls return from Study Leave. The amount on sale will be limited due to a lack of old blazers to transform! If you have a torn or frayed blazer to spare, please let the team have it!
The team’s success means that they now go forward to the Hertfordshire finals on June 10th. I wish them every success in this!
The students would like to thank everyone who has supported them, particularly Year 7 for the idea for a bow to match their uniform, Mrs Hyslop for her enthusiasm and publicity, and anyone who has helped to make Vintage Heroes successful by purchasing their products! They would also like to thank Mr McCarthy and Mrs Kerry for their support.
