Nov 25th / Last Thursday students from Year 12 and 13 went to the a Sixth Form conference hosted by St Albans Cathedral. This event was based on the BBC TV programme “Question Time”, and gave students the opportunity to share in a morning of debate. The event was chaired by the award winning journalist Samira Ahmed, and the guest panel was comprised of Gerald Corbett (Chair of Britvic plc), Huda Jawad (Activist & Writer), Peter Lilley (Conservative MP for Hitchin & Harpenden), Lord McNally (former leader of the Liberal Democrats in the House of Lords) and Richard Osman (TV Presenter).

There were a variety of questions posed by the audience on the terrorist attacks in Paris and how the government should react, as well as the migrant crisis, government spending, and student loans.  This was a valuable opportunity for our students to experience at first hand the dynamics of political debate.  They were also able to reflect on and develop their own views about the issues under discussion.  We were very impressed by the way in which they engaged with the whole process, and would like to thank the Education Centre at the Cathedral for inviting us to this event.
