Sept 17th / All Loreto families are able to use the services of Vista, a local organisation which offers support for children, young people, parents, families and schools in the local community.   Here are further details of these services, including forthcoming events:

SCHOOL FAMILY WORKER

Your school has a dedicated School Family Worker who can help you with supporting your child/ren. Our School Family Workers are qualified and trained to work with families and parents and can deliver a variety of courses and workshops. They undertake on-going training in specialist subjects enabling them to support parents in one to one work or small groups.

As well as supporting parents, our School Family Workers deliver mentoring sessions to children in a safe environment in school. Your School Family Worker can be contacted direct or through a member of school staff.

COUNSELLING SERVICE FOR ADULTS, CHILDREN and YOUNG PEOPLE

Vista offers counselling as a private service. We have qualified Counsellors working for and in partnership with Vista who are quality assured by Vista, trained in safeguarding and hold enhanced CRBs. Counsellors are all members of BACP (their professional body) and are experienced practitioners who follow the BACP ethical codes of practice and receive regular supervision.

If you or your child would like counselling and you may be able to pay for the service please contact Vista direct.

PARENT PARTIES – Boundaries, Handling Anger, Boys…

Would you like to host a Vista Parent Party? We can offer a variety of topics over an informal lunch or evening party for you and a few of your friends. You invite your friends and provide the venue – we will bring the resources, strategies and ideas. Looking for Volunteers to help with Crashpad Service

Crashpad is a service at Herts Young Homeless. They are looking for volunteers who are willing to give up a room in their homes for a 16 or 17 year old for a period of about 3 weeks whilst housing is being sought. This is temporary emergency accommodation for which the host be paid £23.73 per night that the young person stays. Looking for volunteers – Childrens Ward at Watford General Hospital!!

We have a wonderful project and are supporting the Carer Support Team on the Starfish Ward at Watford Hospital. Our volunteers give practical support to parents who have arrived on the ward with a sick baby or

child via Accident and Emergency – extremely stressful for them. You would be part of a team with strong induction, good training and regular support. AUTUMN TERM’S EVENTS

SIBS Group – for siblings of children and young people with special needs – a New Service!!

Dates: 29th September, 20th October, 24th November – The Links, 1 Hixberry Lane, St Albans, AL4 0TZ

For children aged between 7 and 11 years. The group starts at 3.45pm and runs until 6.00pm and is offering a variety of fabulous activities including sport, crafts, homework support and preparing dinner for all to share. Support Sessions for Parents of Children/Young People with a Diagnosis of ASC – with Anne Pocock

Anne Pocock , Specialist Teacher for Autism is offering surgeries on a Wednesday afternoon to be booked through the Vista office. Session times are: 1.00pm, 1.35pm, 2.10pm, 2.50pm. Simple Solutions Drop-In Session with Sally Glossop (Communication Disorder Team) – 8th October and 21st October

Sally Glossop provides a regular monthly FREE drop in session for Parents and carers of children and young people with additional needs. This is a chance to find solutions to challenging behaviour in your child with Autism/Aspergers/ASD. This is a drop in session but you do need to register and the next one is Thursday, 8th October at 11.00am at Fleetville Junior School. A two hour workshop which will explore why children argue, how to ignore and acknowledge behaviour, the influence of birth order and how to apply choices and consequences. First Aid Course for Teenagers – 17th October

A four hour accredited course for young people who babysit or care for children run by MGM Training. This course is offered to anyone aged 13 years and above. Time Out for ADHD/ASD for parents of children aged 5-14 years.
