July 16th / Students and staff at Loreto are celebrating another successful Drama Festival. The initial performances took place on 9th July and involved all Key Stage 3 forms. The Festival’s purpose is to foster the pupils’ abilities in writing, directing, set designing, costume creating, prop hunting, rehearsing, and performing their own short plays.
Year 7 adapted some of their favourite plays from the glorious Bard William Shakespeare. Year 8 took on the challenge of adapting a piece of poetry into a dynamic piece of drama. Year 9 transformed their GCSE studies of ‘An Inspector Calls’ into a range of short scenes not seen in the play itself.
Our wonderful adjudicator, Ms. Rowland-Caunce, was impressed by the dedication, professionalism, and team work from all of the forms, and these six were chosen to perform on the ‘Drama for Parents’ evening on 13th July:
7J with ‘Macbeth’
7T with ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’
8S with ‘Lily the Pink’
8Y with ‘The Highwayman’
9T with ‘Character Monologues from the Birling Family’
9Y with ‘The Strike at Birling and Co.’
Many thanks to Mr Hagan for running the festival and to all the English teachers and other staff who helped to make the entire event possible.
