July 6th / Last Wednesday and Friday our Y8 pupils all took part in a Classics Activity Day.  At the start of each day they were told that they would all be placed into a press team charged with producing a newspaper focussing on a significant event in world history.  Throughout the morning, just like in a real press office, they received a series of bulletins about various happenings in Pompeii.  Their task was to sniff out the story, stay on top of it as it developed, and produce an accurate account in the form of a newspaper report.

At the end of each day all the pupils gathered in the workshop and put their work up on display.  Prizes were given for the best teamwork, best article, best presentation, and best result in our quiz on life and death in Pompeii.

We were really impressed with how well the pupils responded to this challenge on both days.  They worked together really effectively, and produced some very accurate and beautifully-presented accounts of the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD79.
